The Bundu & Buzz Story
Bundu & Buzz began with a moment that made us stop. We watched a pet owner carry his breathless Scottish Terrier up an embankment — a reminder that many of our pets aren’t thriving.
Like humans, dogs and cats have drifted far from the diets nature intended. Processed kibble and carb-heavy meals dominate the shelves, while raw, species-appropriate foods are all but forgotten.
At 16hrs For Life, we guide people back to whole, nutrient-dense eating. Bundu & Buzz follows that same philosophy — offering raw animal ingredients for pet owners who choose a simpler, more natural way to feed.
We’re not a complete pet food — just a return to real food.
.
Bundu (for dogs) & Buzz (for cats)
Bundu & Buzz is a raw animal-based product range inspired by how dogs and cats would eat in nature — simple, unprocessed, and biologically familiar.
-
Muscle meat – a natural source of protein
-
Organs – traditionally valued in raw feeding
-
Bone – for those who include natural calcium sources
-
No processing. No additives. Just real, whole ingredients.
Our approach is guided by the same food philosophy we use in our human programs: keep it natural, nutrient-rich, and aligned with how the body was designed to eat.
This isn’t a formulated pet food — it’s a return to whole food feeding, for owners who choose simplicity over processing and want to get closer to how nature intended.
Welcome to Bundu & Buzz — a species-appropriate way to feed.
Please note: Bundu & Buzz is currently available in Cape Town and surrounds
Feeding Guidelines
A raw, animal-based diet is most consistent with the way dogs and cats have eaten for most of their evolutionary history. Many raw feeders choose to exclude processed, carbohydrate-rich foods to focus on whole animal ingredients like muscle meat, organs, and fat — valued for their naturally occurring nutrients.
Use the tool below to estimate feeding amounts based on your pet’s size and activity level. This is for informational purposes only and should be adapted to your pet’s individual needs.
Delicious Flavours To Choose From
The Raw-Meat Prey-Model Species Appropriate Diet Explained
The raw, animal-based feeding model is inspired by what dogs and cats might naturally consume in a prey scenario. Instead of relying on processed, carbohydrate-based feeds, many raw feeders choose to offer whole animal parts — including muscle meat, bone, liver, heart, and other organs — to more closely reflect a species-appropriate approach to feeding.
This method emphasizes simplicity and the use of unprocessed animal ingredients, allowing pet owners to create their own feeding routines based on ancestral principles.
1. Evolutionary Perspective
Carnivorous ancestry:
Cats are obligate carnivores, and dogs are considered facultative carnivores. Over time, their digestive systems and food preferences have adapted to diets that are rich in animal-based protein and fat, with minimal reliance on carbohydrates.
Natural feeding habits:
In natural settings, wild canids and felids often consume the entire prey animal — including meat, bone, organs, and connective tissue. This approach provides a diverse range of naturally occurring nutrients, such as calcium from bone, vitamin A from liver, taurine from heart, and various trace minerals from soft tissues.
2. What’s in a Bundu & Buzz Mix?
Bundu & Buzz raw mixes are inspired by the whole-prey feeding model and include four main raw animal components, portioned by weight:
| Component | Approx. % | Commonly Chosen For |
|---|---|---|
| Muscle Meat | ~80% | A primary source of natural protein and fat, along with B-vitamins, iron, and zinc. |
| Bone Meal | ~10% | Contains naturally occurring minerals like calcium and phosphorus. Finely ground to avoid splintering. |
| Liver | ~5% | Traditionally included in raw feeding for its rich concentration of nutrients. |
| Heart | ~5% | Known for its high taurine content (especially important in feline diets), along with lean protein. |
We also add small amounts of kelp powder (for iodine) and taurine to support dietary variety for pet owners who follow raw feeding practices.
3. Nutrient and Profile Overview
The Bundu & Buzz raw mix includes a variety of whole animal components, each contributing to the natural diversity of nutrients found in raw feeding practices:
-
Protein: With approximately 18% protein by weight, the mix provides a substantial protein base often used by raw feeders to support species-appropriate diets.
-
Fat: Naturally present in muscle and heart tissues, contributing energy and a source of essential fatty acids.
-
Bone Meal (10%): Contributes calcium and phosphorus in a ratio close to 1.2:1, a proportion commonly referenced in raw feeding circles.
Whole-food nutrient sources:
-
Liver: Traditionally used for its naturally occurring vitamin A and D.
-
Heart: Valued for taurine and CoQ₁₀ content, especially in feline diets.
-
Muscle meat, liver, and heart: Contain B-vitamins and iron.
-
Kelp powder: A natural source of iodine.
-
Bone and organ tissues: Supply a variety of trace minerals.
4. Feeding Estimates
Many raw feeders use protein-based calculations to estimate daily feeding amounts. Below are general reference ranges often used to guide portions according to an animal’s weight, activity level, and life stage:
Dogs (grams of raw mix per kg body weight per day):
-
Adult maintenance: ~5.6–11.2 g/kg
-
Puppies / gestation / lactation: ~14.0–22.4 g/kg
Cats (grams of raw mix per kg body weight per day):
-
Adult maintenance: ~11.2–16.8 g/kg
-
Kittens / gestation / lactation: ~19.6–28.0 g/kg
These estimates are based on commonly referenced daily protein requirements (e.g. 1–4 g protein per kg body weight) and can be adjusted by pet owners according to individual needs.
5. Optional Additions for Nutritional Variety
Some raw feeders choose to include additional whole-food ingredients to broaden the nutrient profile of their pets’ diets. At Bundu & Buzz, we offer two simple options commonly used to support dietary diversity:
Marine Oil Drops (EPA/DHA fish oil concentrate):
-
Dogs: ~1 g daily
-
Cats: ~0.3 g on alternate days (e.g. Mon/Wed/Fri)
Whole Sardines (once weekly, raw or lightly cooked):
-
Dogs: ~250 g in one meal
-
Cats: ~65 g in one meal
These additions are valued for their naturally occurring omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, selenium, and other trace elements. Quantities may be adjusted based on your pet’s size, diet, and preferences.
6. Rethinking Carbohydrates
Many raw feeders choose to remove processed, carbohydrate-based foods—like kibble, cereals, and starch-heavy treats—from their pets’ diets. This aligns with the species-appropriate feeding approach, which emphasizes animal-based ingredients over plant-derived fillers.
Feeding without added carbohydrates is a personal choice made by owners who aim to reflect a more natural eating pattern for their animals.
7. Observations from Raw Feeding Communities
Pet owners who follow raw, prey-inspired feeding routines commonly report a range of visible changes over time. While every animal is unique, some of the most frequently shared observations include:
-
Improved body condition and lean muscle appearance
-
Shinier coat and better skin condition
-
Smaller, firmer stools
-
Consistent energy levels and alertness
-
Reduced exposure to synthetic additives and fillers
